About Klaipeda

Klaipeda is the third largest city in Lithuania and being the only port city, it has been invaded by various cultures like the Curonians, Germans and the Livonians in the past. This has lead to Klaipeda being influenced by all these cultures and developing into an intriguingly ethnic and multicultural city.

Klaipeda is a relatively small city and most of its population constitute of the working class people. There are very few sightseeing places in Klaipeda but what little there is will definitely be a rewarding experience. Some of the places of interest would be the St. Mary's and St. John's churches, the drama theatre built in 1857 and Mazvydas Sculpture Park with over 180 quirky art works to mention a few.

You can find great bargains and souvenirs in the old parts of the town and in the markets on theatre square.

Klaipeda port

Klaipeda is located in Lithuania by the Eastern coast of Baltic Sea and being the only ferry port in Lithuania, there are several ferry connections to Germany and Sweden each week from Klaipeda ferry port. The deep water port of Klaipeda is aptly suitable to accommodate large cruise and freight vessels and hence Klaipeda port authority has been given a go ahead to further develop the cruise terminal to accommodate the growing number of passengers passing through Klaipeda ferry port each year. All Klaipeda ferries can be booked through AFerry

Klaipeda port facilities

Klaipeda ferry port offers a wide variety of facilities within the passenger ferry terminal such as restaurants and bars, souvenir shops, a bureau de change, a cash machine, an internet cafe and taxi services. Post office, payphones and hotels are available near the ferry terminal.

The passenger and cruise terminal at Klaipeda are undergoing a huge face lift that is expected to be completed in 2011 to render modern and quality services to all the passengers passing through the port.
