About Marsala

Marsala is famed for Marsala wine, a popular export to elsewhere in Europe and the USA. Similar to Sherry and Port, Marsala wine is often used as a cooking ingredient, particularly for the chicken marsala dish - not to be confused with tikka masala!

One of the most striking attractions in Marsala is Stagnone Lagoon - a natural reserve and collection of salt pools. The pools are always hot during summer due to the low depth levels which can be as low as 2 metres.

Ferries to and from Marsala

Ustica Lines runs a fleet of 25 high-speed vessels, each ship equipped with air-conditioned rooms, TV, music, reclining seats and an onboard bar serving refreshments and snacks. The fastest ships can reach speeds of 36 knots.

Marsala port facilities

The ferry terminal has no facilities as such but the main town is close by where you will find shops, restaurants, banks and hotels. There are also a few restaurants on the seafront right near the port.

Getting to Marsala port

Marsala can be reached using the A29 highway from Palermo, which is toll-free and approximately a 150 km trip.
