On the Pakri peninsula of north western Estonia lies the town and Baltic Sea port of Paldiski. Paldiski was originally a Swedish settlement, then it became a Russian naval base in the 18th century. When it swapped hands to Estonia it was spelt Baltiski and then in 1933 the Estonian pronunciation Paldiski became the official name. The city is served by Paldiski Port with ferry links to Kapellskar in Sweden.
